Endorsement and Liability Disclaimer

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) does not endorse or recommend any commercial products, processes, or services. The information on NIAAA's Web site may not be used for advertising or product endorsement purposes.

The NIAAA website provides links to other Internet sites for informational purposes only. When users select a link to an external website, they are leaving the NIAAA website and are subject to the privacy, security, and accessibility policies of the owners/sponsors of the external site.

NIAAA does not endorse organizations that sponsor linked, external websites. In addition, NIAAA does not endorse products or services that such organizations may offer. Furthermore, NIAAA does not control or guarantee the currency, accuracy, relevance, or completeness of information found on linked, external websites.

NIAAA cannot authorize the use of copyrighted materials published on linked, external websites. Users must request authorization from the sponsors of those external websites.

During your visit to the NIAAA website, your web browser may produce pop-up advertisements. These advertisements were most likely produced by other websites you visited or by third party software installed on your computer. NIAAA does not endorse or recommend products or services that may appear as pop-up advertisements on your computer screen while visiting our site.

NIAAA does not guarantee that linked, external websites comply with Section 508 (Accessibility Requirements) of the Rehabilitation Act.

Information Disclaimer

NIAAA urges you to consult your physician or other health care provider if you or a loved one has an AUD or alcohol related problems.

Copyright, Permissions, and Translation Policy for NIAAA Content

Reuse of Text and Images
NIAAA information and publications are works of the United States Government. Most NIAAA products and other information available on our website may be reproduced or copied without permission in the United States. Please credit NIAAA as the source. There are a few exceptions—for example, some resources, such as some images on the NIAAA website or in NIAAA products, have been licensed by a third party and are restricted in their use. Generally, copyrighted materials will include a copyright statement. Permission to use copyrighted graphics, resources, and other content must be negotiated directly with the copyright owners, not NIAAA. If in doubt, please contact the copyright owner for those non-NIAAA materials.

Please note that using government materials inappropriately, however, can raise legal or ethical concerns, so we ask you to also follow these guidelines:

  • Do not use NIAAA content in a manner that may give the appearance of NIAAA providing specific medical advice, treatment, or referrals.
  • Do not change NIAAA content in a way that will change the meaning of it.
  • Do not use NIAAA content for direct or indirect advertising or endorsement purposes. NIAAA does not endorse or recommend any commercial products, processes, or services.

Adaptations to NIAAA Publications
If you want to change anything about an NIAAA publication, you must: indicate that material is adapted from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), refrain from using the NIAAA logo on the adapted product, and seek permission from the copyright owner of any copyrighted images or materials that appear in the NIAAA publication. Adding non-U.S.-federal-government logos and website links to NIAAA publications is strongly discouraged, as it implies NIAAA endorsement.

Translations of NIAAA Publications
The translation of NIAAA publications into languages other than English is welcomed, as long as: you get permission to use copyrighted materials from the copyright owner, the translated product does not use the NIAAA logo, and the translated product gives credit to NIAAA and includes this statement: “The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) does not endorse this translation and no endorsement by NIAAA should be inferred.”
