John Ostuni, Ph.D.
Biographical Summary
Dr. John Ostuni received his Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from Rutgers University in 1993. He then joined the Clinical Center of National Institutes of Health as a post-doctoral fellow and eventually became an NIH staff scientist. He has remained at the NIH for over 25 years developing software for various imaging and data processing projects. He has worked with numerous NIH institutes and coauthored publications in many different fields. Dr. Ostuni also has expertise in multiple programming languages as well as in agile software development. Dr. Ostuni has been a computer science lecturer for a number of years. In 2016, Dr. Ostuni founded the NIH Virtual and Augmented Reality Interest Group and has consulted on many mixed reality projects in the NIH community since that time. In 2023, Dr. Ostuni transferred to the Clinical NeuroImaging Research Core (CNIRC) of the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) to develop mixed reality applications for alcohol related health research. He also provides computing support to clinical researchers.
