Sheila Walsh, M.A.

Biographical Summary

Sheila Walsh came to us from community health where she provided psychiatric nurse services to homebound adults throughout the Northern Virginia area. She holds professional Board Certification in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing (PMHN RN-BC) through the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC/ANA). Sheila’s focus in home care was to provide assessment of anxiety, depression, and cognition to homebound adults and short term cognitive behavioral therapy. Sheila also brings with her to the NIAAA 15 years of research nursing experience from working with patients with uterine fibroids, pharmacokinetic modeling and new cardiac devices for those needing heart transplant. Sheila has a BSN in nursing and a Master of Arts in Psychology with a specialty in Assessment. Sheila has applied her expertise in these areas to the recruitment, screening, and assessment procedures here at the NIAAA/OCD. She is trained in the administration of the (Structured Clinical Interview for DSM Disorders) SCID and other assessments used on the Adult Behavioral Health Unit. Her current research focus areas are two-fold, and thereby include addiction medicine research and cognitive assessment.
