Changing Alcohol Use and ER Visits
Join us for a webinar on Apr 10, 2019 at 2:00 PM EDT.
Among adults 18 and older, alcohol use is increasing, particularly for females. Alcohol use among middle- and high-school students is declining, but primarily for young males. Previously large gaps in alcohol use for teen males and females have disappeared.
These changing patterns are concerning given evidence that women are more susceptible than men to negative alcohol-related health outcomes, including liver disease, cognitive impairments, and certain cancers. Over the last few decades, the number of alcohol-related emergency department visits, hospitalizations and alcoholic cirrhosis deaths all increased, particularly among women and older drinkers.
Join NABCA and Dr. Aaron White, Senior Scientific Advisor to the Director at the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), as he explores the changing patterns of alcohol use and related harms in the US and examines the contribution of alcohol to deaths involving other drugs.
