ICCFASD Special Focus Working Groups
The ICCFASD uses subcommittees and special focus work groups led by different agencies to help set direction and apprise the ICCFAS of new opportunities for action in specific areas. One of the guiding principles of the ICCFAS has been to use the diverse missions, strengths, and resources of the various member organizations to advance the effectiveness of the Federal response to address issues related to prenatal alcohol exposure and FASD. In addition to ICCFASD members and alternate representatives, working groups may include scientists and staff from federal agencies, research and clinical experts, and other stakeholders.
ICCFASD Working Groups - Active
The ICCFASD invites comments on an outline of our next strategic plan.
The ICCFASD and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), sponsor and chair of ICCFASD, invite input on the draft outline of the 2022-2026 ICCFASD strategic plan from diverse stakeholders, including scientific experts, health care providers, patients and family members, advocacy groups, other federal agencies, and non-governmental scientific, professional, and healthcare organizations. Organizations are encouraged to submit a single response reflecting input from their organization as a whole.
To view the proposed outline and to submit comments, please see the online response form. Responses will be accepted through August 31, 2021. For more information, view the request for information.
The ICCFASD Strategic Planning Working Group was formed in Spring 2020 to review the ICCFASD FY06-10 Strategic Plan and make recommendations to the ICCFASD on the ICCFASD strategic planning to make the most impact in the next several years. The ICCFASD Strategic Planning Working Group includes representatives from a variety of ICCFASD member agencies. Continued engagement with stakeholders is essential to the ICCFASD. Input will be sought from a range of stakeholders to ensure that the ICCFASD collaborative partnership and its priorities and objectives address the needs of persons affected by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) and their families and prevention of prenatal alcohol exposure in children.

The objectives of the ISBI working group are to
- exchange information and resources,
- identify gaps and opportunities for improved implementation and research, and
- expand collaboration and partnerships between federal agencies
related to screening and brief intervention (SBI) services, and referral to treatment when necessary, for pregnant and postpartum people (PPP).
This collaborative effort is in line with one of the ICCFASD priority areas to reduce prenatal alcohol exposure and prevalence of FASD among U.S. children.

The Justice Issues Working Group – one of four working groups established by the Interagency Coordinating Committee on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (ICCFASD) to address special issues and to plan and implement directed activities – is led by Scott Pestridge, Senior Policy Advisor, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. Mr. Pestridge is also the U.S. Department of Justice representative to the ICCFASD where he coordinates the work of the group with Dr. Sally Anderson, NIAAA, FASD Activities Coordinator, ICCFASD. For the past several years, the highest priority of the work group has been to increase awareness of legal and justice professionals about the challenges they face when individuals with an FASD are involved with the justice system. The overall goal of current activities is to help attorneys and judges increase their understanding of FASD so that they may better serve clients with FASD and their families and better consider a broader range of options when they have, or think they may have a youth with an FASD in their court.
