Technology Transfer

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) is dedicated to discovery: uncovering new knowledge that leads to better health for everyone. NIAAA scientists generate a wealth of technologies and innovations, including potential therapeutic drugs, new materials, methods, and devices. As important as these innovations are, they will not benefit the public unless transferred, using a variety of vehicles, including patenting and licensing of inventions.

Technology Transfer has become an integral part of the biomedical research effort at the NIAAA.

The primary mission of technology transfer is to enable NIAAA intramural researchers to effectively interact with academia, nonprofit organizations, and the private sector, such as biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies through the establishment of collaborative relationships that will benefit human health. These partnerships and strategic alliances will provide support for both new technologies and furthering the development of current technologies.

NIAAA’s Technology Development Coordinator works closely with the NHLBI Office of Technology Transfer and Development (OTTAD) who services NIAAA on all technology transfer agreements and licensing and patenting activities including negotiating Cooperative Research Development Agreements (CRADAs), Research Collaboration Agreements (RCAs), Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs) and other legal agreements on behalf of NIAAA.

Researchers interested in obtaining NIAAA Materials or developing collaborations with NIAAA scientists should first contact NHLBI OTTAD. They will assist you in contacting the appropriate investigator to determine the availability of the Materials.
